Please meet Darlene Cook, our new Assistant Director. In this role Darlene works with Diane to help develop and oversee implementation of our ministry programs, trainings, and conferences. This includes working on curriculum updates, speaking at conferences, and training new leaders. She will also help to oversee administrative processes and staffing needs.
Darlene is passionate about helping people who have experienced abuse and/or trauma to find real freedom through the healing power and truth that comes from God’s Word and a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Over the last 17 years I’ve worked at Emmanuel Christian Center (Spring Lake Park) and Hillside Church (Duluth) in a variety of roles including Church Administration in the areas of Connect Groups, Recovery Ministry, Missions, and Business.
During the same time period, I have gone on mission trips to Guatemala 14 times, and have especially enjoyed serving others through prayer ministry, mentoring, and facilitating support groups in my “free” time.
In 2012, I was at a conference and felt the Holy Spirit leading me to help people who have experienced abuse and trauma find healing and wholeness, and to live the abundant life that Jesus offers them.
I started a support group at Emmanuel’s Recovery program at that time, but when I met Diane Stores in 2015, I could see that the vision of Door of Hope was the same as what God had put in my heart, and it was exciting to see that God had brought us together.
I live in Spring Lake Park and attend Emmanuel Christian Center. I have four adult children, who all have families of their own, with 13 beautiful grandchildren. My husband, Mitch, passed away in May of 2015 from Alzheimer’s disease and pancreatic cancer. I miss him dearly, but I am thankful for the beautiful memories and times we had together. I love to go hiking and kayaking “up north” by Lake Superior as much as possible.
