Founder and Executive Director, Diane Stores

I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. - Romans 1:8

I don't know about you, but for me November and December are a time of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance of all God has done the past year. It's overwhelming to consider all the ways He has blessed and poured out His favor, and all the ways He has used you to accomplish His purposes at Door of Hope.

Here's Some of What God Has Accomplished in 2018, Through You:

Support Groups

  • Served 166 people: 123 women, 23 kids, 10 teens, and 10 children thru childcare

  • Added two new support groups: Safe People and Loving on Purpose Parenting Class

  • Increased the number of trained support group leaders to 15

  • Added more group space through our expansion this fall (we’re already running out of space!)

  • Held our first off-site support group

Trauma Recovery Counseling & Prayer Ministry and Women’s Conferences

  • Facilitated more than 140 Trauma Recovery Counseling & Prayer Ministry sessions

  • Two conferences provided for women seeking healing from abuse, with one more conference coming in December

Safe Housing and Crisis Counseling

  • Helped 10 women in crisis write safety plans to help minimize the danger of leaving an unsafe situation

  • Added three safe houses, hosted by families willing to take in women needing a safe refuge

Staffing and Volunteers

  • 1500+ volunteer hours have been logged so far!

  • Increased the hours of Associate Director, Darlene Cook, to 30 hours a week

  • Hired Gabby Plaep as our part-time Youth & Young Adult Ministry Coordinator

  • Added Nate Oyloe to our staff as a volunteer (with hopes to bring him on payroll soon) to help us serve more men

  • Added two more staff offices through this fall’s Ministry Center expansion

Wow! It is very exciting to see God bring His hope and healing to so many men, women, and children!

The need continues to increase as word about Door of Hope spreads...

From all of us at Door of Hope - thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

On Sunday, October 14th, Executive Director, Diane Stores, and Assistant Director, Darlene Cook, hosted a Door of Hope resource table at Abundant Life Church’s Community Life Partner Fair.

What a blessing to be able to resource God’s people with information and tools to help recognize and heal from abuse and trauma.

Staff Introduction: Assistant Director, Darlene Cook

Darlene Cook, Assistant Director

Darlene Cook, Assistant Director

Please meet Darlene Cook, our new Assistant Director. In this role Darlene works with Diane to help develop and oversee implementation of our ministry programs, trainings, and conferences. This includes working on curriculum updates, speaking at conferences, and training new leaders. She will also help to oversee administrative processes and staffing needs.

Darlene is passionate about helping people who have experienced abuse and/or trauma to find real freedom through the healing power and truth that comes from God’s Word and a relationship with Jesus Christ.

From Darlene:

Over the last 17 years I’ve worked at Emmanuel Christian Center (Spring Lake Park) and Hillside Church (Duluth) in a variety of roles including Church Administration in the areas of Connect Groups, Recovery Ministry, Missions, and Business.

During the same time period, I have gone on mission trips to Guatemala 14 times, and have especially enjoyed serving others through prayer ministry, mentoring, and facilitating support groups in my “free” time.

In 2012, I was at a conference and felt the Holy Spirit leading me to help people who have experienced abuse and trauma find healing and wholeness, and to live the abundant life that Jesus offers them.

I started a support group at Emmanuel’s Recovery program at that time, but when I met Diane Stores in 2015, I could see that the vision of Door of Hope was the same as what God had put in my heart, and it was exciting to see that God had brought us together.

I live in Spring Lake Park and attend Emmanuel Christian Center. I have four adult children, who all have families of their own, with 13 beautiful grandchildren. My husband, Mitch, passed away in May of 2015 from Alzheimer’s disease and pancreatic cancer. I miss him dearly, but I am thankful for the beautiful memories and times we had together. I love to go hiking and kayaking “up north” by Lake Superior as much as possible.
